Optimization of coal pipeline transportation parameters

Abstract: Abstract: Research on coal slurry pipeline transportation has been carried out since 1980s in China, and its industrial application has been carried on in a project by Shaanxi Coal and Chemical Industry. Before pipeline transportation, the coal must be made as coal water slurry in order to use pipeline hydraulic transport because of the long distance, and large volume in pipeline transportation. In this paper, to ensure the safety of the coal slurry pipeline, the standard of qualified coal slurry pipeline transportation is suggested, in order to provide a scientific basis for pipeline coal slurry production. In addition, through the study of particle suspension mechanism in coal slurry pipeline transportation process, the resistance loss parameters in coal pipeline transportation and semi-theoretical and semi-empirical formula for the critical non-deposition velocity are derived. This empirical formula is verified with operation data ofthe 400-kilometer-long Black Measa coal pipeline in the United States, as well as test data of domestic and international indoor circulation pipe coal. It is found that this formula has relatively high precision. Finally, taking the newly built Shaanxi coal pipeline as an example, the design parameters of the pipeline are calculated, the calculation results of which show that the Shaanxi coal pipeline design is safe and reliable.
