Abstract: In order to obtain the mining response characteristic of permeability of gas-filled coal, the paper studied the mining response mechanism of permeability deeply by using the combining methods of theoretical analysis, numerical simulation and field test. Starting from the basic definition of porosity, the paper established the mining response model of permeability based on volumetric strain by using Kozeny-Carman equation. The paper simulated variation of the permeability in the process of coal mining based on the mining response model of permeability by using COMSOL Multiphysics and studied the mining response of permeability in the field. The results show that mining is the key controlling factor affecting coal permeability, the variation of volumetric strain, permeability and gas flow is consistent affected by mining, the swelling deformation of coal and permeability increases gradually as the approaching of the working face and reaches a maximum near the working face. The permeability of the return airway side seam is greater than that of haulage roadway at the same location away from the face, and the closer the coal face the greater permeability.
