Abstract: Forced caving measures are always employed during initial mining period in fully-mechanized working face in Jinjie coal mine, in order to eliminate the safety issues such as massive overlying rock strata suspend on the gob. In this paper, strata behaviors of 31111 fully-mechanized working face in terms of hydraulic fracturing in first caving of Jinjie coal mine was analyzed and the following conclusions can be reached. (1) Hydraulic fracturing technology can effectively weaken the the roof integrity and roof caving presents the characteristics of laminated, graded and gradually. Thus the damage caused by massive rock strata caving suddenly during initial mining was avoided. (2) Through fracturing in the roof strata, dynamic load and impact load applied on the hydraulic support was reduced. (3) The strata behaviors and roof caving indicate that hydraulic fracturing technology can take the place of blasting in first roof caving and avoid safety issues caused by blasting and insure the safety of initial mining.
