Abstract: In order to study the flocculation and sedimentation characteristics and mechanism of different types of polyacrylamide on fine quartz particles, the flocculation and sedimentation test of fine quartz particles suspension with different types of polyacrylamide was carried out, and the effect of dosage of medicament, pH value, pulp concentration, energy input and other factors on the flocculation and sedimentation characteristics of fine quartz particles were investigated. The result showed that the influence of different types of polyacrylamide on the settlement characteristics of fine quartz particles is: cationic > nonionic > anionic. The effect of nonionic type was better at 8 million, and that of anionic type and cationic type was better at 12 million. As the dosage of cationic was 300g/t, pH=5, pulp concentration was 40g/L, the sedimentation efficiency was up to 99.4% and the turbidity value was 8.070. The main modes of action between polyacrylamide and fine quartz particles were "electrical neutralization", "adsorption bridging flocculation" and “enmeshment ability”.
