Abstract: In order to quantitatively study the effect of frother and gas rate on bubble size in flotation, bubble size measurement system based on Image Analysis Technique was built. And experiment was conducted in flotation machine XDF-2L with three frothers 2-Octyl alcohol,Alpha-Terpineol and MIBC under different frother dosages and gas rates. Results show that the bubble size decreases with increasing frother dosage until the Critical Coalescence Concentration (CCC) is reached. The CCC values of 2-Octyl alcohol, Alpha-Terpineol and MIBC are 0.066mmol/L, 0.113 mmol/L and 0.181mmol/L respectively. The bubble size increases linearly with an increase of gas rate, while the slope depends on frother concentration. The size distributions of bubble clusters which have the same Sauter diameter are a combined effect of the type and concentration of frother and the gas rate.
